Planning Permission for a Loft Conversion

  • Expand to a maximum of 40 cubic metres
  • Expand to a maximum of 50 cubic metres for detached houses
  • No extension beyond the existing roof slope
  • no extension is higher than the roof of the house
  • materials have to have the same appearance
  • no raised platforms or balconies
  • the roof enlargements should not overhang the wall’s outer face

It is also important to note that in previous editions all changes have to be included in the list above. As a homeowner, you may not have made any changes the previous owners may have. These requirements listed above apply to houses. There are a different set of requirements for flats and other buildings.
